How to block unwanted websites on firefox?

You must have often wondered about blocking certain websites that are probably inappropriate for some users for instance adult websites for children etc. Don’t ponder anymore because it is a lot more simpler than you could have ever thought. Just follow these simple steps and you can block any website that you want.

Firefox provides an Add-on named FOXFILTER that helps you to block any websites that you feel are not appropriate for some users.
Step 1 : To add this add-on to your browser just go to the following URL and click the “Add to Firefox” button.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4351
13
Step 2 : Once you have added the firefox add-on, go to the Tools menu bar at the top of your firefox browser and navigate to “FoxFilter Preferences” and open that page. Select the first option that is “Enable Filtering” and click on “Save Changes ” button.
22
Step 3 : Now open the same page again and go to the “Black List” option at the top. Scroll down and you will see a field named “Block these keywords and websites”. This field can be edited and you can put any keywords that you want to be blocked. For instance you want to block facebook.com just click anywhere in that field and write facebook.com or simply facebook and then click the “Save Changes” button.
31
And this is it. Now when you will try to open facebook in your browser it will give you an error message of “Content Blocked”. Isn’t it simple?
4
FoxFilter also has a password protection feature that allows you to access various settings and uninstallation of this add-on. So nobody else other than you can uninstall this add-on or change its settings.
Step 4 : Open the “FoxFilter Preferences” page and go to the “Security” tab and set your password as you would like. After filling all the fields dont forget to click the “Save Changes” button. And you’re done.

Disable the Internal Speaker System Beep in Windows 7

Today, most desktop and laptop computers still ship with speakers inside to help troubleshooters and technicians diagnose boot, startup, memory, and various hardware errors. If your computer’s internal speakers beep from time to time when you use Windows 7, follow these simple steps to disable the system beep.

What is the System Beep?

Strange as it may seem, not all computers come equipped with sound cards, internal sound processors, or speakers. Some PCs not used for general computing such as data, print, or storage servers have no need for such multimedia capabilities. As a throwback to the days before high-fidelity sound, modern desktops and laptops still ship with internal speakers capable of emitting rudimentary sounds.
Truthfully, internal PC speakers are useful as a troubleshooting tool. Emitting a series of beeps (long and short), these speakers help PC technicians track down certain types of errors that prevent a computer from starting up. Since there is no need to leave the speaker on once you are in Windows 7, it is safe to disable the system beep to prevent the occasional annoying beep that emanates from within your PC.

How to Disable the System Beep in Windows 7

Click on Start and right click on My Computer. Choose Manage from the menu to open the Computer Management window.
Open the Computer Management Window in Windows 7
In the left hand pane, expand the group labeled System Tools and click on Device Manager.
Open the Windows 7 Device Manager
Not all devices in your PC are displayed in the Device Manager window by default. Some devices are hidden so you need to tell Window 7 to display the hidden devices. On the menu bar, click onView>Show Hidden Devices.
Show Hidden Devices in Windows 7 Device Manager
Back on the Computer Management window, locate and click on a group labeled Non-Plug and Play Drivers. Here you will find a long list of non-plug and play devices connected to your computer and recognized by Windows 7. Locate an item labeled Beep, right click on it, and select Properties from the menu.
Windows 7 Beep Properties
On the Beep Properties window, click the Driver tab and change the Startup Type to Disabled.
Disable System Beep in Windows 7
Click the OK button and restart Windows 7. From now on, you will no longer be annoyed by the occasional system beep from within your PC’s case. If you ever have need for the system beep again, follow the instructions above but change the Startup Type to System instead. Then, your internal speaker will continue to function normally with Windows 7
Once the only sound of which PCs were capable, a computer’s internal speaker is now only a diagnostic tool to troubleshoot PCs with hardware errors. Using the Windows 7 Device Manager window, you can disable the System Beep and stop those annoying beeps from within your computer’s case.
This is a much better solution than removing the speaker from within your PC since you or another troubleshooter may need it diagnose some computer errors.

Open Multiple Web Pages When Your Browser Starts Up

In this article, I’ll show you how you can setup IE, Firefox, Chrome and even Opera to open multiple web pages or tabs when the browser starts up. You can use the built-in options in the browser or you can pick from some add-on and plugins that also get the job done.

Google Chrome

Let’s start off with Chrome since I use that as my primary browser. In Chrome, you have a couple of different options, which is nice. First off, if you’re one of those people that never close your browser, then you might want to check out the Continue where I left off option. Click on the three-line button at the right, then click on Settings.
chrome settings
Under Settings, you will see On startup and a couple of radio buttons. You can either have a new tab page open, which will show you your most visited websites by default in Chrome. You can also use this radio button if you have an extension like SpeedDial2 installed, which reconfigures your new tab page.
on startup chrome
If you want several tabs to open, you’ll need to choose from Continue where I left off or Open a specific page or set of pages. Continue where I left off is nice if you always keep the tabs you want to use open anyway in Chrome and don’t close Chrome. In the event of a crash or a restart, Chrome will just load back up with all the tabs you had before it shutdown. So if you like to pin tabs and that sort of thing, this might be a good alternative.
If not, you can always choose the last option and then just type in as many URLs as you like.
chrome multiple startup
In Chrome, all your session data is saved, so you won’t have to log back into sites like Facebook or Gmail unless you configure them that way. Chrome has a setting under Advanced that let’s you delete the session data too if you like.

Firefox

In Firefox, you can use the built-in option or download from a plethora of plugins and add-ons. I personally like using the built-in option because it fits my needs, but for those who need more advanced options, I’ll mention a plugin or two you might like.
As opposed to Chrome and other browsers, in Firefox you first need to open the tabs that you want to set as your home pages. Once you have the tabs open, go ahead and click on the Firefox button and then choose Options – Options.
firefox options
Click on the General tab and then choose Show my home page for the When Firefox starts option.
firefox home page
Now just click on the Use Current Pages button and you’re good to go! There are some add-ons that add extra functionality like opening certain links only on certain days. Morning Coffee is one that comes to mind. You can search for others too.

Internet Explorer

For IE 9, all you have to do is click on the gear icon and then click on Internet Options. Then go to theGeneral tab.
ie internet options
multiple home page ie
Now just type in each URL on it’s own line and then click OK to close the Internet Options dialog. That’s about it for IE 9. What about IE 10?Well, if you are running Windows 8 with IE 10, you will be happy to know they have a few more options than previous versions of IE.
Again, go to the General tab and you can still enter multiple web pages like previously, but now you also have some other options below that.
Ie 10 startup
You can choose Start with tabs from the last session, which is the same as Continue where I left off in Chrome. You also have more options to configure your tabs in IE 10. Click on the Tabs button and you get a whole bunch of stuff.
Ie 10 tabbed browsing
You can choose to open the new tab page when a new tab is opened or your first home page or a blank page. You can also choose to open the first home page when IE 10 starts up, but that kind of defeats the purpose of opening multiple pages when the browser loads. Note that this is for the desktop version of IE 10. For Metro IE 10, there doesn’t seem to be a way to do this yet.

Opera

Opera is a little different than the other browsers when it comes to setting up multiple home pages. First open all the pages you want to have load on startup and then click on the Opera button, click on Tabs and Windows, Sessions and then Save This Session.
opera sessions
You can then check the Show these tabs and windows every time I open Opera box.
show tabs and windows
You can also click on the Opera button, go to Settings and then Preferences.
opera settings
Here you can choose from Continue from last time, continue saved sessions, Start with home page and more. Opera has a lot of options, which is kind of cool. That’s about it! If you have any questions or know of any better plug-ins or add-ons for any browser, let us know in the comments. Enjoy!
